GPT Image 2 vs Google Nano Banana Pro: A Head to Head
Blind tests on LM Arena, five capability dimensions, and an honest answer to which one to reach for in production.
Nano Banana Pro is the current strongest Google image model on fal.ai. GPT Image 2 is OpenAI's unreleased reply. A cohort of LM Arena testers ran both side by side on the same prompt pool of about 400 entries covering photography, UI, typography, illustration, and deadpan realism. The full numbers are below.
Results by capability
- Text rendering: GPT Image 2 wins about 75 percent of matchups. Banana Pro holds up on short single-word labels but lags on multi-line copy, form fields, and CJK scripts.
- Photorealism: GPT Image 2 wins about 65 percent. The gap widens on portraits and narrows on landscapes.
- World knowledge (real UI, real landmarks, real product packaging): GPT Image 2 wins about 60 percent. Banana Pro is stronger on stylised marketing creative where the reference is vibe, not accuracy.
- Speed: GPT Image 2 wins roughly 55 percent. The difference is small at medium tier and grows at high.
- Creative composition: effectively a tie near 50 percent. Banana Pro wins on coherent painterly palettes; GPT Image 2 wins on complex multi object layouts.

Picking one for production
If your product renders UI, packaging, typography, or anything where text has to be right, GPT Image 2 is the primary and Banana Pro is the creative fallback. If your product is stylised marketing creative (think campaign hero stills, editorial illustration, fashion moodboards), Banana Pro is likely already on your tool bar and should stay there.
