Pricing Predictions for GPT Image 2 on fal.ai

OpenAI has not posted a sheet. Here is the price band we expect based on 1.5 anchoring, competitor pricing, and the signals in the API partner briefings.

OpenAI has not published a pricing sheet for GPT Image 2. Neither has fal.ai. Here is how we think pricing will land when the endpoint lights up, based on where GPT Image 1.5 prices today, where competitors have settled, and what we have picked up from partner briefings.

Anchor: GPT Image 1.5

GPT Image 1.5 on fal.ai bands from $0.005 per image at low quality 1024x1024 to about $0.20 at high quality 1792x1024. The median production render is around $0.04 to $0.08.

Adjacent models

Flux 2 Pro sits in the same band at medium tier. Imagen 4 runs slightly cheaper than GPT Image 1.5 at every tier. Nano Banana Pro is priced slightly higher than Flux 2 Pro for comparable tiers.

Our prediction

GPT Image 2 will price at a modest premium to 1.5 at the low and medium tiers and a noticeable premium at the high tier where the 2048 and 4K modes live. Rough shape:

  • 1024x1024 low: ~$0.01 (vs 1.5 at $0.005)
  • 1024x1024 medium: ~$0.04 (vs 1.5 at $0.02)
  • 1024x1024 high: ~$0.13 (vs 1.5 at $0.08)
  • 1920x1080 high: ~$0.37
  • 2560x1440 high: ~$0.66
  • 3840x2160 high: ~$1.48

These are the numbers the fal-ai/gpt-image-2 preview is currently billed at during partner access, and we think they will hold to within 25 percent at public launch.

What that means for your budget

If your monthly GPT Image 1.5 spend is $500, budget $700 to $900 for the same traffic on GPT Image 2 if you migrate one-for-one. If you bump a portion of the catalog to the 4K tier for hero stills, add $0.80 per hero on top. For most product teams the text rendering gain is enough to justify the bump, because the human review that previously caught typos is the line item you remove from the spreadsheet.
